Grad X is an annual showcase presented by Swinburne University of Technology’s School of Design and Architecture (SoDA).

Each year, GradX showcases the work of final year students from Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Branded Environments, Communication Design, Industrial Design, Interior Architecture, Motion Design, Photomedia, Product Design Engineering, Urban Design, User Experience Interaction Design, and Design Factory Melbourne.

This year, GradX will take place at the Hawthorn campus from 24 November to 9 December 2022.

The Motion Design course at Swinburne University of Technology is firmly grounded in design. The course gives students the opportunity to learn how to apply the visual language of motion design using a design-led approach. It focuses on visual communication using practices and principles from graphic design, animation and film.

- James Berrett, Discipline Coordinator of Bachelor of Design (Motion Design), Swinburne University of Technology

“We’re excited to celebrate the achievements of our students at this year’s graduate exhibition and look forward to seeing where their careers take them."

We asked students: "What does motion design mean to you?"

Linda Montealegre
“I can get lost in motion design for hours. I love that there's no end point – you can take a piece as far as your imagination allows.”

Toby Do
“I recently started dabbling in motion design, which has been new and exciting to me, but the opportunity it has given me in the design field is enormous. Motion design has changed the way i perceive everything so much that it elevates most of the projects I could have imagined. I'm eager to apply what i have learned about motion design in different projects and see where this creative journey will lead me next!”

Olivia Groves
“I love motion design because it combines my love of illustration/design and storytelling.”

Sarah Berry
“I love expressing my passions through a creative outlet and learning more about a topic to showcase it through a lens of Motion Design. I've always been a creative growing up, the combination of sound and visuals in a design sense excites my brain. Motion Design, especially in the games industry feels like a space where designers can flourish their passions and talents together.”

Austin Stone
“Creating and creativity is amazing! Being able to take an idea and make it a reality  with the tools you have and the skills you’ve learned brings me no greater joy. I’m eager to apply this philosophy finally within a professional capacity and begin learning new things, skills and practices as I begin my career. ”

Kirrilee Broughton
“I’m excited for a future where I can help others to express themselves or their brands through one of my biggest passions.”

Brock Jackson
“I’m extremely excited to kickstart my creative career in both communication and motion design. Motion design excites me as I see it as an extremely important aspect of all design. Motion in any design is becoming more and more common and I look forward to discovering new ways to further include motion in all my design projects.”
